Consistency vs. Motivation
Hi friends,
I’ve come to realize that I can’t rely on motivation to drive my day, my week, or my life.
Instead, I my success comes only from relying on consistent efforts to meet my goals.
Motivation is fickle and unreliable. It comes and it goes, based on how I am feeling or what’s happening around me. Instead of allowing it to control my actions, I choose to take charge by setting up systems and being consistent in my actions.
This approach has been a game-changer for me. Consistency is like a reliable friend, always there to support me. It's the foundation that keeps me going, even when motivation is nowhere to be found. My success comes from habits and systems that align with my values and goals, and they've become an integral part of my life.
One of my longest-standing habits is journaling. Purging the stressors of the day and documenting plans and dreams helps me to clear my head and reset myself. It hasn't always been easy, and there are days when I don't feel like doing it or feel too busy or too tired. However, because it's a well-established part of my routine, the “you don’t have to” chatter in my head has little control over me. I've learned to say, "I'm doing it with or without you, Motivation!"
Over time, I have realized that skipping it or dismissing its importance often leads to the days I need it most. So when you're having a challenging day, ask yourself, "What did I need to give to myself to set me up for success?" Odds are, your answer will point you towards a consistent habit or routine. Now, let's talk about procrastination. When things are toughest, it's easy to put things off. But what I've learned is that what you're putting off is often where your focus is most needed.
Procrastination compounds over time, stealing your energy and acting as a mindset bottleneck. When you find yourself procrastinating, ask yourself a few questions:
What am I resisting?
What is my procrastination protecting me from?
What do I not want to feel?
By understanding what you're avoiding, you can take steps to address the root cause, helping you get unstuck and move forward.
I just wanted to remind you as you get your week started, you don't need to rely on motivation to achieve your goals. Instead, focus on setting up habits, processes and systems that support your success. This includes your mindset. Embrace consistency, and you'll be surprised by how much you can accomplish. If you have any questions or need assistance with implementing consistent habits and processes, don't hesitate to reach out, send me an email, click to set up a call and we’ll talk it through. I’m here to help you succeed, with or without motivation.
Be kind to yourself this week!
Chris
