Getting Unstuck
I get stuck, and I’m a coach…
Can you imagine how hard it is for me to be transparent with you and come right out and say I’m stuck?
Well I am, and I am just like you. I get stuck in my stuff too, that’s also why I still invest in having my own coach, but the point is, it happens to all of us. There is nothing to be ashamed of, it’s part of the human experience.
What works for me won’t work for everyone but I thought I’d share what helps me. When I am stuck, I need to find ways to disrupt my life, because I too get entrenched into patterns. Daily routine patterns, repeating thought patterns, belief patterns, made up story patterns, go back to bad habit patterns just because they are easier. Negative thoughts are way easier to believe than positive thoughts are - humans are just built with that slant, it’s part of our lower brain and fight/flight system (nothing is wrong with us).
But by the time I look up with the slightest bit of realization that I might be stuck, weeks have passed. After going through a couple of these cycles I’ve learned that it’s very important for me to have time set aside for creativity. I need to literally create something with my hands that produces a tangible result. Some of these adventures would be considered epic failures in the eyes of the world and some are admired and even gift-worthy. Either way, it doesn’t matter to me, I just HAVE to use that right side of the brain on the regular to feel balanced. Each time this happens I learn more about myself.
When it occurred to me that I was in a stuck mode this most recent time, anyone peeking through the window of my “creative space” might think that Edward Scissorhands had moved in with all the feverish snipping, cutting, gluing, drying, painting and right-braining happening in there.
This time I also just stopped drinking coffee. Don’t freak out friends, I’m not telling you to do that! LOL!! I am just saying I am interrupting the mundane habits to see if they even matter because if they don’t maybe I can replace them with things that actually do.
Some of you might wonder how to recognize when you're stuck. Well first, if you’re wondering right now, you probably are, at least a little bit or in some area of your life. Things feel stagnant, boring, things kind of feel heavy or “meh”. Your daily activities are sort of blurring together, you don’t feel present in your life, but life is just happening.
If you’re interested in exploring this further send me an email, I have a handy worksheet that I am happy to share with you. It can help you evaluate and rate several areas in your life to help you get a baseline of where you’re at and help you prioritize what you might want to work on first.
Have a great rest of the week and weekend!
Be kind to yourself!
